Space Coast Gator Club

We're Out of this World

Mission (Formal): To support the University of Florida’s mission of teaching, research and service as determined by the University of Florida Board of Trustees by fostering and enhancing the relationship between the University of Florida and its alumni, students, and friends.  The Space Coast Gator Club is dedicated to giving back to our community and the University to maximize the educational opportunities of the current and future students.

Mission (Informal): We're bringing the Swamp and love for the Gators to Brevard County!

Our Board members

David Melnyk, President

Born in Puerto Rico, my parents met at the University of Florida and raised me a Gator.  I officially committed to joining the Gator nation back in 2008 from my hospital room on the 7th floor of Shands. I had a room overlooking Gainesville when the Gators overthrew Alabama; I watched students go crazy until the next morning. They were climbing buildings, shouting a city-wide “orange-blue,” and running through the streets- that when I knew that I wanted in. While studying financial planning in Gainesville, I met life-long friends, discovered my passions, and created some memories that I will never forget (nor will my friends allow me to.) Following graduation, I began my career in financial planning locally but missed the community back home in Gainesville so I became involved in the Space Coast Gator Club and their mission to bring the Gator community a “Home away from the Swamp” here in Brevard.

Jared Mongold, Vice-President

I am originally from St. Petersburg, FL. I met my wife at UF in 2010 and we were married in March. I love the Gators, Rays, Steelers, and Lightning. I graduated with a degree in Economics (BSBA ’12) and I work in Commercial Insurance Sales. I am a brother of the Florida Upsilon chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon (or, as immortalized in the Independent Florida Alligator, the “Lion Frat”). I became involved with the Gator Club because I wanted to further enhance the reach of the club, especially among Young Alumni, and generate scholarship funds to help future Gators achieve their dreams and goals because I know how expensive a quality college experience can be.

Randy Gray, Past President

I was born and raised in Brevard County.  A true beachside native, I grew up in North Indialantic and knew Brevard when it was a virtual utopia. I was lucky enough to be there to watch the development of the Space program.  Surfing and clamming when young, I became hypersensitive to environmental concerns.  This follows me today as I am very conscience of the health of our Indian River Estuary and Beaches.   My interest in Art and Architecture took me out of the river and to an Architect’s office as a junior draftsman.  It was through my tenure there that I was led to study Architecture at the University of Florida.  I remember with great fondness my time at the University of Florida.  Over the years I have really come to appreciate the education UF provided me.  Currently I am working for an Architecture Firm in Orlando. I am so fortunate to be working in the field that I love so much.  I have been an avid Gator since I can remember which goes against the grain of my Kentucky Wildcat Kinfolk, making me the Orange and Blue sheep of the family (they always tell me I got it half right).  I love the outdoors and catch sunrise at the beach every weekend I can.  Paddle boarding and long run/walks on the beach just quiets the mind and starts the day out right.  I am proud to call Brevard County my home and as the past President of the Space Coast Gator Club and current member  am so grateful to have the opportunity to help the students and people of Brevard County.

Susie Bond, Communications Officer

I graduated in 1983 with a degree in Dietetics & Nutrition from UF.  Seven members of our family are Gator grads, representing three generations of Gators. I grew up in Gainesville, so going to the University of Florida was a natural choice. I became involved in the Space Coast Gator Club in 2005, and have served on the Board of Directors since that time. Along with my better half, Rich Rosa, I have enjoyed hosting football watch parties for the Club for the past 10 years. I work at my dream job as a nutritionist for Health First Pro-Health & Fitness Center, teaching nutrition classes and working with private clients. In my spare time (ha-ha) I like walking on the beach, riding my bicycle, designing & making jewelry, and spending time with friends and family.

Corey Runte, Vice President of Outreach

I was born in Lighthouse Point, FL but grew up in Melbourne and graduated from Melbourne Central Catholic High School. I graduated from UF December 2014 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Construction Management & Minor in Sustainability. I interviewed all over the US, but chose to work for a fast-growing, gator-owned construction management company here in Melbourne/Central Florida, Certified General Contractors, Inc. I couldn’t turn down the opportunity with CGC especially when coupled with returning to my roots, a place that has been a hidden gem for so long that is no longer hidden and is viewed as an economic powerhouse in Florida for large companies to move & hire young professionals such as myself & a few of our other board members. There is a reason why SCGC has a board that is so young compared to the rest!

My twin brother, and older brother are both gator graduates, with my parents being huge gator fans. Having grown up a diehard Gator fan, my goal throughout schooling was a Gator Degree, the best degree in the country. It is extra special to give back to my community & the Space Coast Gator Club since my twin brother & I were awarded scholarships to UF from the Space Coast Gator Club…it’s crazy how life comes full circle! Having been very involved at UF, it was only natural to get involved in the 9th largest Gator Club in the World, right in my back yard! This club is so much more than I perceived it to be, offering unrivaled camararadie, a wide array of fun & exciting programming for all ages to enjoy, and most importantly, the opportunity to raise money for scholarships to deserving future Gators.

Outside of my career and being a diehard Gator fan, I enjoy volunteering in the community, coaching soccer/volleyball, surfing, fishing, and boating.
